Father's Day Gift Ideas for the Sports Fan

Updated on November 25, 2012

Father's Day Gifts for the Sports Fan

Most dads are sports fans of one kind or another. Many are the ultimate sports fan and like a multitude of sports. If your dad falls into any of these categories, stray from the traditional tie or key chain and buy your dad something sports related this Father's Day.

We all know that it is the thought that counts when it comes to a gift, but in my opinion, it takes more thought to come up with a gift dad will truly love and use rather than sticking to something more traditional just to say you bought something. Maybe your dad is a die hard NFL fan or maybe he likes to fish as a hobby. No matter what his sports interests are, there is the perfect gift out there for him. So, take a little time and think about what your dad would really like this year!

For the Couch Potato Sports Fan Dad

So maybe dad is or isn't a couch potato, either way I'm sure he would still like to drink his favorite beer or other bevarage out of a glass with his favorite team's logo. These color changing glasses are great. The picture shown is how the glass will look when an ice cold drink is in it. While it is empty, the logo only appears in etched glass without the color. Many teams to choose from.

Father's Day History

Father's Day is a day to celebrate fathers, fatherly bonds, and the influence of fathers on society. Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. This holiday has been celebrated since the early twentieth century.

Sonora Smart Dodd is recognized for being the person who first instituted what we now recognize as the official Father's Day. Her first official celebration was on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. There were other known observances of Father's Day as early as 1908, but Dodd's celebration is what made way for a bill to be introduced to Congress in 1913 to make Father's Day an official national holiday. There was resistance and the bill did not pass due to fear of the holiday becoming too commercialized. Father's Day became a hotly debated topic in Congress for many years thereafter. Finally, in 1972, Father's Day officially became a national holiday.

Father's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. The largest number of countries do celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday in June, however, some countries such as Russia, celebrate Father's Day as early in the year as February 23rd and Bulgaria celebrates Father's Day the latest in the year, December 26th.

For the Dad that wants to be in on the action. What better way to get in on the action than playing paintball. Dad can let out some of his frustration of a long work week and act like a kid again. Paintball can definitely be painful...my inner thing knows that pain well, but it is also great fun!
