Halloween Holiday Tree

Spooky Halloween Holiday Tree

The dilemma as to when to put up the Christmas tree brought me to the idea of a Spooky Halloween Holiday Tree. Every year as Christmas rapidly approaches, I dread pulling the Christmas tree from where it is buried in the garage and bringing it in the house to set it up. While it does go together in just 3 pieces, it always seems like such a hassle to bring in for just a month and then take down. Thus, a came up with this idea.

I put my tree up at the end of September and went to my local craft stores and big box retailers. I found various decorations and lights to decorate my Spooky Holiday Tree. I loved the way it turned out. It gave me a new, exciting way to not only decorate for Halloween, but it also got me thinking about the possibilities for other holidays like Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, and Easter.

Halloween Trees

You can always use your Christmas tree as a base for your Halloween tree, but if you prefer something more festive you may want to go for a black artificial trees. Black artificial trees are available in a variety of sizes and styles. Some are pre-lit and some come without lights. Find the one that best fits your Halloween decorating needs.

When witches go riding,

and black cats are seen,

the moon laughs and whispers,

'tis near Halloween.

What You Will Need to Start Your Halloween Holiday Tree

Your holiday decor normally will match your personality and your own personal style or taste. When I look for decorations, I look for items that are cute, but not cheap looking, and items that have more of a whimsical feel or look for the most part. For my tree, I started off by selecting lights. I purchased the small, twinkle style lights from Target. They actually had several colors to choose from for Halloween including green, orange, purple, and a set with all 3 colors. I personally chose the orange lights, but again, this is your tree and you should decorate to suit your personal taste.

I then started thinking about what would be a good focal point or tree topper. I chose a fuzzy black spider with purple accents. The spider had movable, poseable legs, which allowed me to position it to fit the top of my tree. The spider was approximately 12" in size. You may want to choose a skull, ghost, or even some type of a pumpkin.

Ornaments for Your Halloween Holiday Tree

After I decided on the lights and tree topper, I started looking for items that would make good "ornaments," or items that would be easy to hang or stick to the tree. I found some small glittery skeletons at my local craft store. I personally chose black and silver colored skeletons to match my theme. I then took them home and was able to put some string around the neck to make it easy to hang on the tree. I found other items such as small colorful spiders with fuzzy and glittery legs that were easy to attach to branches, as well as a couple of medium sized poseable fuzzy spiders in green and purple.

I found various items at my local craft store including a whimsical looking witches hat, which was actually supposed to be a picture holder, but served great to hang from the tree where you would normally attach the picture. I also found several zombie looking figures that were designed as keychains that already had a method of haning attached to it. There are so many great items out there to use. Choose the look that you like best, and be creative with how an item suited for one purpose can work for something else.
