National Hot Dog Day
National Hot Dog Day is July 23rd
Not only is July 23rd National Hot Dog Day, but the month of July is actually National Hot Dog Month. Hot dogs are one of the first foods we think of when we think of a summer BBQ, so why not have not only a day, but a whole entire month to celebrate this delicious food.
Depending on where you are from, hot dogs come with a wide variety of condiments or toppings including mustard, ketchup, relish, sauerkraut, pickles, cheese, onions, chili, tomato, lettuce, and many more. To me, the all-time classic hot dog is one with classic yellow mustard.

History of the Hot Dog
According to Wikipedia, the actual origination of the hot dog is hard to pinpoint. Some say "hot dogs" originated in Frankfort, Germany, but this isn't necessarily true. Frankfurters did originate in Germany, however, a frankfurter is actually a pork sausage in a bun that is similar to a hot dog and has been around since the 13th century.
Hot dogs are also known as wieners. The term wiener originated in Vienna, Austria and referred to a sausage made of a mixture of pork and beef. The first place "hot dogs" were known to be sold in the United States was on Coney Island around 1870 when Charles Feltman started selling sausages on rolls. While many were said to have invented the hot dog, the idea of a hot dog on a bun is said to have come from Antonoine Feuchtwanger, who sold hot dogs in the streets of St. Louis, Missouri in 1880.
The world's longest recorded hot dog was 197 feet with a 198 feet bun and the most expensive hot dog on record was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records at $145.49 on May 31, 2012 at Capitol Dawg in Sacramento, California.
